Prime Commodity Exchange (PCX) is a world-class exchange leveraging technology to provide real-time matching, clearing and settlement of commodity backed transactions.




We are building a trust-economy that promotes fair and efficient participation in the commodity markets for all actors in the commodity ecosystem




Commodities provide an alternative investment asset class for investors to make significant returns whilst effectively diversifying their risks.


The Exchange facilitates real-time trading between buyers and sellers of commodities. All trades will be made through the Automated Trading System (ATS) of the Exchange.

Clearing & Settlement

PCX will deliver efficient clearing and settlement services for trades on its trading platform through its in-house trading and settlement department. All transactions will be transferred from the trading system to the clearing software for settlement by nominated settlement banks. Settlement of trades on the Exchanges trading platform shall not exceed t+3 days.

Price Information

The Exchange will serve as a reference for price information for all commodities listed on its platform. Price points will be obtained at various levels, analyzed and disseminated through the Exchanges price ticker as well as the Exchanges website and other traditional and social media outlets.

Affordable Storage

PCX is providing access to affordable warehousing to clients through its robust network of storage facilities across the country. The Exchange licenses and accredits third party warehouses which serve as aggregation and storage units for commodities to be traded on the Exchange.

Safe Warehousing

All Exchange and licensed third party warehouses fully equipped with functional tools or quality assurance and are fitted with a unified Electronic Warehouse Receipt System (eWRS).


PCX facilitates the international trading of commodities to and from Nigeria. The Exchange guarantees the quality and quantity of the commodities to be exported to the buyer as well as guarantees settlement to the seller as per the contract terms.

Paddy Rice


Sesame Seed



Maize is a grain cereal and is fast becoming a staple food in many parts of the world. Some of this maize is consumed directly by humans, it is also a major raw material requirement for the processing of animal feed, ethanol and other maize products such as corn starch and corn syrup.


Soybean serves as a complement for maize in the production of animal feed. It is also used for processing oil for human consumption. Soybean provides vegetable protein for millions of people and ingredients for various chemical products.

Paddy Rice

Paddy Rice when harvested is further processed into finished rice for human consumption. Rice is a major staple in Nigeria and west Africa with millions of people consuming it regularly on a daily basis.


Sorghum is commonly referred to as the fifth most important grain cereal in the world. Whilst some of it is consumed by humans directly as food, it is used as a major raw material supplement for maize in the production of Animal feed. it is also used in the brewing of beverages.

Sesame Seed

Sesame seed is an oilseed with one of the highest oil contents. Sesame seed is edible and has a nutty flavor. Sesame seed can be added to food for flavouring, it can also be further processed into oil for use in cooking, making dressings and sauces. A significant volume of sesame seed is procured and used for its medicinal qualities.


Ginger is a root crop whose rhizome is widely used a s a spice and also has medicinal qualities. Due to its high level of pungency and availability of other active ingredients, it is used for cooking, making beverages and flavouring for pastries. Ginger can be traded in various forms including Fresh roots, dried – split, and crushed/ powder, providing


Quality & Quantity Assurance: The Exchange guarantees to buyers’ the quality and quantity of commodities purchased through the Exchange. The quality and quantity of commodities traded is guaranteed through the rigorous quality assurance processes initiated at each of the warehouses. Commodities to be received must conform with certain minimum standards specified by the Exchange.

Reduced Cost: Leveraging the supply chain network of PCX allows buyers and processors to reduce cost of managing aggregation themselves. The number of field agents engaged by processors will drastically reduce leading to reduced exposure and reduced operational expenses.

Price Discovery & Price Transparency: The Exchange structure provides a mechanism for price transparency and price discovery allowing market participants to have real time price information as well as transact in a fair and efficient manner.

Risk Management: The Exchange provides instruments for trading which market participants can utilize to hedge their positions and effectively manage their risks.

Spot Contracts

These are contracts for immediate settlement. Participants on the spots board will trade warehouse receipts listed on the Exchange but backed by the underlying physical commodities in accredited warehouses. Spot contracts  will be cash settled and do not require delivery of the underlying commodities.

Forward Contracts

Forward contracts are entered into by parties to buy or sell commodities at a specified time in the future for a price agreed upon today. The Exchange will facilitate the listing of forward contracts on its platform and ensure adherence to terms by all parties.

Physical Contracts

These are contracts that require physical delivery of the underlying commodities. The basis for physical transactions is Local Purchasing Orders (LPOs) and block trades listed by processors and will require physical delivery of the commodities based on the contract specifications.

Derivative Contracts

These are financial instruments that derive their value from the value of an underlying asset. Listing and trading of derivative contracts (futures, options, swaps etc.) on the Exchange will be carried out in line with SEC rules and regulations on derivatives trading.
